That Ever Will Be
When I think of all the tears just trying to be free
When I think of all that was lost between you and me
When I think of the wind and the motion of the trees
I think of all there has been and all that will ever be,
Life is a struggle and it's no cup of tea
There will always be envy and inequity
Truth will always be as elusive as divinity
We're trapped in these bodies but not for eternity,
We are but spirits passing by like ships in the night
Some keep their eyes on the prize to others it's out of sight
Oh Lord drive off the evil with all of your might
Excuse me Baby but my throat is getting a little tight,
Too many fools moving away from the light
She walked away seeking other delights
Sometimes I just want to give up the fight
Too many sheep who just can't get it right,
Oh mother you were terminally ill
What I would have given just to get the magic pill
Wives who left seeking that strange new thrill
Those who sold their souls for that dollar bill,
When I think of all the tears just trying to be free
When I think of all that was lost between you and me
When I think of the wind and the motion of the trees
I think of all there has been and all that will ever be,
I can hear their indignant, demonic pleas
Like a primate from behind a cage just looking at me
This once was a nation from sea to shining sea
All that was once great that can never be,
Still I can hear her voice just down the hall
Funny she hasn't been here for so long and all
But inside my head I hear that sad sad call
They're always riding high just before the final fall,
When I think of all the tears just trying to be free
When I think of all that was lost between you and me
When I think of the wind and the motion of the trees
I think of all there has been and all that will ever be.
