T’was the night before Christmas
And for three hard months long
Folks had occupied Wall Street
Ninety nine percent strong
The occupiers were mad
They had reason to be
When they looked at the system
They saw inequity
A young girl in Zuccotti
Shivering in the cold
Was kept warm by the notion
That her solutions were bold
Income redistribution
Or at least recompense
Economic reforms
It just made too much sense
As this girl stood her ground
Seven stories above
Was a banker who looked
On “Occupy” with no love
He looked down on the protests
And why shouldn’t he
From what he was hearing
“They’re all angry me!”
These people aren’t mad
With the bailouts and such
They just wanted a handout
They were asking too much
“If these protesters could see,”
As he thought to himself
“All the benefits wrought
From amassing such wealth”
He just can’t understand
Why the anger they vent
Was directed at him
And not the government
As the banker looked down
From his warm apartment
He locked eyes with our girl
And began to lament
Maybe he’d been hard hearted
He could see she was cold
But her strength of conviction
Was more precious than gold
She was staring up too
Consumed not with hate
But with a simple desire
To change America’s fate
And in that shining moment
The banker’s heart had a change
What he saw in her eyes
That was really quite strange
She was not like the rest
With their chants he abhorred
This girl was quite cute
He was also quite bored
So he popped on his coat
Though you think it is odd
To leave his warm apartment
Right where Wall Street meets Broad
When he got to the street
And walked up to the girl
She saw he was quite special
So she’d give it a whirl
Though she looked like a hippie
And he dressed like a dweeb
They figured that maybe
Just this one Christmas Eve
That’d they’d burry their difference
And together they went
To occupy a warm barstool
For their grievance was spent
For our hippie and banker
Their love didn’t last long
And you know there’s a message
In this Christmas love song
That it couldn’t have lasted
Though it’s nothing to fear
As I’m sure you must know
It’s an election year
Christmas has that effect
Making friends out of foes
And we’re warmed by each other
When the coldest wind blows
For protester and banker
In the December frost
They could see in that moment
That not all hope was lost
Though they may disagree
And there’ll always be jerks
Most folks are good hearted
And the country still works
“Is that so,” say the skeptics
They think that’s an untruth
But for hippie and banker
They’re disagreements are proof
That they hold different values
And don’t vote the same way
The can all still love each other
Even just for one day
"Destroying the New World Order"
