The Better Half of My Day
Dreaming of another life while I’m asleep
As the feathery cloud of darkness I keep
Floating over a canyon whose slopes are steep
Not living in a world where I sow what I reap,
No longer suffering from what I couldn’t control
There’s a misty closet for me to hide my soul
A new life where I play another role
Where I take refuge in a black hole,
Each night an escape carries me away
From a world that plagues me by waking day
No longer alone feeling like prey
No longer begging a woman to stay,
The cruel world outside shut out for now
Night time eclipses the search for a sacred cow
On a mystical journey all worries gone somehow
No longer on the world stage forced to take a bow,
No sad questions that go unanswered anymore
I’m in a starry night sky far from shore
Living in someone else’s shoes beyond dusk’s door
In love with a faithful lady whom I adore,
As though set afloat from my sinking ship alive at sea
The darkened waters surround and protect me
No disappointments or lingering sadness I’m free
Now my creator it is time to hear my plea,
Once upon a time before life ruined the dream
When resistance spoiled the cream
When lost love lay behind every scene
Now dreaming is the asylum flowing unseen,
The dream is my angel here to stay
Even if it’s only temporary anyway
Just like life’s illusions that drift away
Dreams have become the better half of my day.

James, being a victim in this day and age has become a popular narrative! I think one that is also a convenient excuse for mistreating husbands and boyfriends too! Yep, no doubt about it the crazy ones are better in bed it's having to endure the rest of the time that poisons the stew!
Doc - Every woman I ever dated claimed to be abused. I think about half of them actually were. My answer is that adults are responsible for their decisions. The weird commonality I find nowadays is that many women have three or four loser guys in their orbit that bring them stuff and money, and work around the house if needed. This would include the last three women I saw. They were all shocked and amazed when I told them to get lost, after finding they subscribed to this system. Before that, it was just one scummy ex apiece that my ex's couldn't let go of. Part of my problem, I think, is that all men know that the crazy ones are better in bed, lol.
You're a great writer and poet Doc V. And you're not bad either JR, my only concern would be reading it aloud where good elocution may prove to be difficult. -but good on you for trying.
James, that is freakin hilarious! But, no I can't let myself be consumed with hatred. It wouldn't help. Anyway take that poem of yours and triple it and that would be my life. I really know how to choos'em! A word of advice. My mistake repeated 3 times over was marrying a woman who had experienced child abuse. No, it was not their fault, but you will never have a normal or functional relationship with a person like this. No matter how much counseling they've had. Just remember that. If we chose a partner not based on the heat and passion of the moment but got to know about their past, their family harmony or chaos, we would make better choices, Let me get off the soap box now,
How about this one:
My ex was a cheating bitch
Now I think not of that witch
Then she grew as fat as a cow
A stupid, stinky sow
She rolled in the shit
Couldn't get enough of it
Now she's dead in a ditch
And How!
When you start writing poems like this, you'll know you're making progress. :o)
