The Dark Mirror
I am the eternal loser
The sporadic chooser
The vague diffuser
The occasional boozer,
The voyeur who seems to have lost his chance
A casualty in the war of romance
Always damned for daring to take a stance
How did I miss the spirit dance?
Seems there's no way to reverse this trend
Should I choose to uselessly extend
Even trying to pretend
That over the horizon looms the end,
All these useless games of the human mind
Deriving meaning from nothing of the kind
Only the pain of savaged love to remind
Still groping for any answers I might find,
There was a time when hope flowed like wine
When the sun optimistically shined
When our souls in an age-old ritual combined
When there were meaningful answers I could find,
Now the waters are dark and unclear
People have become deceptive and insincere
There are lies in the intellectual atmosphere
The jet airliner succumbs to wind shear,
There was a time I actually had hope
Was it an illusion or was I at the end of my rope?
Feeling like a blind man who can only grope
All the times I faltered on the slippery slope,
I am the eternal loser
The sporadic chooser
The vague diffuser
The occasional boozer,
On the opposite side of the dark mirror
Peering in but nothing gets clearer
There are no reflections from the dark mirror
Feeling the unknown drawing ever nearer.
