For You I Lament
I was supposed to go before you
You were supposed to see things through
Maybe even bury me too
Now you've disappeared into a mist of blue,
I was supposed to go before you
I was never supposed to bury my baby boy
The youngest one who gave me so much joy
A handsome young man an abusive woman's toy!
Tell me it isn't true it can't be you
Who should I sue? I only wish I knew
This endless question upon which I chew
Just waiting for the drop of a shoe,
I was supposed to go before you
Now my life is all askew
Oh, God could I trade places for the view
Before he'd lived half his life there was a feud,
Before the little boy could become a man
It seemed there was a sinister plan
To drive me insane the best that you can
Oh God, there should have been a ban,
Gentle giants should never fall before their time
Life without your youngest son not worth a dime
Please my God if you could hear this humble rhyme,
Please allow the meek and mild to shine,
Why is it that the purest of heart
Must run into evil and fall apart
Those innocent souls to whom love is an art,
A loving spirit doomed by an evil woman from the start.
