The Edge of Night
I’ve been looking down the road
Not too optimistic truth be told
Uncertainty and darkness ala mode
Memories become a heavy load,
Trying to outrun the edge of night
And remove her from my sight
Opening my eyes to catch the daylight
A whole world living in fright,
The insanity stretches across the seas
Some kind of mental cultural disease
Happens when too many people get squeezed
When out of weakness you attempt to appease,
I see the smoke just over the hill
One more corpse from a fentanyl pill
Vaccine caused another baby to be born still
Some bureaucrat shut down the sawmill,
No way to get back to yesterday
Might want to go to church and pray
Fewer and fewer spouses choose to stay
Few will be ready when it’s time to pay,
Looking further down the road
A man has to live by a certain code
Or he may find a sinful overload
I fear the river of insanity has overflowed,
Looking at all you lonely girls
With your tattoos and golden curls
It seems your whole world just unfurls
All for the sake of vanity and pearls,
Never thought it could be like this
Staring face to face at the abyss
A foolish man and a poison kiss
And you wonder why your life’s amiss.
