The Nocturnal Illusion
Slipping back into my dream world
After a long disappointing day has unfurled,
It is there I find another life
Without the depression that cuts like a knife,
A reality that doesn’t hurt so bad
Without losing the women I should have had,
Taking me so far away
From the selflessness of another day,
The nocturnal paradise I fall into
Once the pale moon comes into view,
That’s where the sorrow ends and I no longer miss you
These fleeting hours before the morning dew,
Oh Lord of the merciful night
Granting me a whole new life in my mind and out of sight,
Let me take hold of this other existence
When I fall asleep without too much resistance,
Within that sphere where wives don’t run away
And those children you raised don’t fall astray,
The night blankets me from the daytime pain
Like the sensation of misty rain,
Oh come again my mysterious friend
As I close my eyes and descend,
A crystalline world of fantasy that swirls
While the wizard’s magic wand just twirls,
Then I catch a fading glimpse of her smile again
Just before the nocturnal illusion ends.
