For years ordinary citizens have been told by their governments “We have no money to spend on your needs, on your communities, on your infrastructure, on your health, on your children, on your environment.
But the money was there - trillions of dollars of it. Today we watch our public treasuries give it away - gifted to the banks and corporations.
Remember this about the financial crisis. The money was there all the time.
For 30 years we were fed a deliberate and outright lie by our governments.
When they wanted a trillion dollars to crush Iraq, they found it. And now, when they want trillions of dollars to save the financial speculators, fraudsters and profiteers, they suddenly have it.
This is the main fact that citizens in all countries should learn from this crisis - the money to improve the lives of their families was always there - but the political system [governments and parties] made a deliberate choice not to use it for the common good.
Why did ordinary citizens choose such a political system that allows politicians to do that to us ? We didn’t choose that system. The politicians chose it. That’s why they have all the power and we have no power between elections.
