This Unfamiliar Terrain
Wrote a song today on my piano
Soft mournful and slow
Outside the morning dew took on a glow
Memories of love lost have taken their toll,
So much water from under the bridge
There’s a desperate fire fight on the ridge
Oh prostitute of destiny will you move over a smidge
In the final analysis who really has privilege?
A walk just the other day through an urban battlefield
The dead are buried now and their lips are sealed
Mankind the bruised banana so freshly peeled
The drugs you rely upon the perfect shield,
The home wrecker you are both near and far
Dwindling to nothing now because of who you are
That’s why only the broken hearted wish upon a star
Being too candid now can expose your mental scars,
Let me thank you lady love for the bumpy ride
Thanks to your betrayal I can never hide
Hope you join the others on their downward slide
You gave me your ultimatum but I just couldn’t decide,
I hear you’re in the desert now surrounded by fear
I can’t believe we ever shared the same atmosphere
Now I smell fire and brimstone whenever you’re near
Your overtures of love were always so insincere,
Drifting through life in a sea of pain
Thinking most of my achievements were all in vain
Oh God save me from the devil’s reign
I fear I’ll go insane in this unfamiliar terrain.
