Times Square in New York City has been evacuated for the second time in a week after police discovered a suspicious package.
The city-run website NotifyNYC said at 1:31 p.m. that "due to police activity in the vicinity of 46th Street and Broadway in Manhattan, expect street closures in the Time Square area."
A live webcam shot of Times Square Friday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. showed the street was shut down. A police vehicle was parked in the street and there were no pedestrians in the intersection. A live webcam shot on CNN.com showed a crowd of people watching police work on the empty street.
Radio station 1010 WINS in New York reports the package is at 46th Street and Broadway. Police did not provide any other details.
The shutdown comes after a failed car-bomb attack in Times Square on Saturday. An SUV was discovered loaded with propane tanks, fireworks and a timing device.
Faisal Shahzad, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, is charged.
