CHAPTER 1 TIME TO SLEEP

My name is Arthur; I am the Director of Rock Mesa Lab,

in Arizona. My lab is built right inside a real Mesa with solar

panels up top that give us the power we need.

To understand where I am now, it is important I think, to

understand where I came from, or the world where I came

from. It was a violent, dirty & harsh world, full of disease,

corruption and pollution. I was doing what I could to make

things better. I was working in my lab on methods for the

Space Program of putting an astronaut to sleep for a long

space voyage. It was my hope that one day; humans could

transport themselves to another planet. A place where humans

could be free to start over and do things right this time.

What we were doing in my lab was kind of simple in many

ways. I had developed a compound, that I called Compound

‘R’ for Rumplstillskin. Original wouldn’t you say. What the

compound did is the simple part. After taking a single softgel

capsule of the compound, the human brain would go into a deep

REM sleep pattern in about 5 minutes. Following my plan,

the astronaut would get into a tubular plexiglass enclosure.

This has been designed by my engineers, like a bed in a

horizontal position. A computer monitors the life functions for

a set period of time. At the end of which a very small electric

shock is given. This, less that 1 volt pulse of power, breaks

the perpetual REM sleep pattern that the astronaut has been

experiencing, and the astronaut awakens to tend to whatever

the computer says the ship might need.

So far we’ve tested this process on live subjects, for

periods of from 1 to 5 years, with no ill effects. Except some

bad dreams for which some restraints were needed. Of course

after a period of 5 years, the astronaut tends to be a little hairy

and a trip to the barber is a nice idea.

The bed is made of an incredibly soft air filled material,

which helps the astronaut achieve the REM sleep state quickly.

In the gravity of earth, no bed sores have been observed, even

for our longest test subject of 5 years. With my system, the

metabolic rate of the body is slowed way down, and periodic

vitamin & mineral injections are performed regularly via

computer functions. This sleep chamber and computer system

unit that my guys have come up with is really a fantastic piece

of engineering. If there is any computer or mechanical failure,

a backup system awakens the astronaut, so that repairs can be

made.

I was set to take a test on myself for a period of 2 weeks.

I would be trying out a new computer program, which would

nullify Violent REM sleep patterns, so no more bad dreams.

The environment in our ‘Sleep Units’ is carefully controlled

for temperature, humidity & air quality. The astronaut attaches

sensors to various points on the body. A waste elimination

device is also attached to the lower extremities. The astronaut

then takes the compound ‘R’ softgel and just lies down. The

rest is automatic. Of course today’s society wouldn’t like to

know that the astronaut is also naked out of necessity. Because

various sensors and computer controlled functions must go on

while the astronaut is asleep.

This aspect of our work here at the lab, has made it necessary

to carefully select the personnel that work here. It wouldn’t be

desirable to have people of Wild Religious notions, making a

fuss while we work. Being naked along with our test subjects,

is part of the job. And by the way, that guy who did our longest

5 year test, woke up to a nice surprise at the bank.

This was my 2nd turn at the ‘Dream Machine;’ some have

called our sleep units. The last thing I remembered before

drifting off in my 2 week sleep test, was double checking all

connections, taking a softgel and lying down. Then I closed

my eyes. I felt the warm glow of Compound ‘R,’ and the air

jets venting in sweet clean air, then sleep took me.

CHAPTER 2 AWAKENING!

Bright Lights!! It was very bright! A voice was saying,

“How do you feel?”

“Can you hear me?”

“Yes!” I said. “Turn off those damn lights would ya!” The

light was dimmed till I could see normally. A pleasant looking

man addressed me.

“Hello,” he said. My name is Vin147. I am the Administrator

here. “Administrator of what?” I said.

“All in good time, all in good time,” he repeated.

I sat up feeling a bit dizzy. “Your dizziness will be normal

for a while, until you recover from the effects of your ‘Sleep

Unit.’

“Effects? There shouldn’t be any effects,” I said.

Vin explained a bit further. “The effects of your equipment

here, and the length of time you’ve been under them,” he said.

“Length of Time? How long are you speaking of?” I asked.

“Well,” said Vin. “Give or take 20 or 30 years, the nearest

we can fi gure, is that you’ve been in your ‘Dream Machine’ for

about 200 years.” I was stunned! The dizziness was wearing

off, but I WAS STUNNED! “How could this be?” I asked

myself aloud.

Vin said in a soft and caring voice, “We are very sorry to

say that all who you knew are now dead and gone. But look on

it this way,” said Vin. “You’ve been given a new chance. Our

way of life is very nice and you’ll see it soon.”

Vin explained further. “It was your power systems you

know. Your main system went down at the start of the Great

Wars. You’re secondary solar power system kept your minimal

life functions going, thus filtering out the air in your ‘Sleep

Unit’ from the toxic plagues that were unleashed on earth.”

“But I was only set for 2 weeks,” I said.

“Yes, there were some earth movements at about that same

time, and your sleep cycle was just not interrupted as you had

planned.” “So that’s it,” I said. “The malfunction that kept my

sleep cycle going, saved my life! Now isn’t that a thought and

a half,” I said.

Helping me to my feet, Vin grabbed both my arms as

‘PAIN,’ like I had never felt before, shot up my legs and I

almost collapsed.

“Easy now, Easy! Let’s have you lie down on this little bed

here,” Vin said, as he helped me to one of the wheeled hospital

beds there in the lab.

“We’ll be taking you now to our medical center for tests,”

said Vin. I looked down at myself, all harry and thin as a rail.

“I could use a shave and have you got anything to eat?” I

asked. Vin kept saying, “All in good time, all in good time.

Don’t you worry one bit, we’ll take care of everything.”

I was aware of others that were there helping me along

on the wheeled hospital bed. I also saw that they were all

naked and bald, with a small gold chain and badge around

their necks. They had wrist devices, and some type of rubber

slippers on their feet and that was it!

I took special notice, that some were Women, and they all

had big beautiful tits! I’m in Heaven, I thought.
