Beauty beyond belief was mine for the asking. Offered at every turn I made. And there! There was Female!! So beautiful was Female! So Loving was her touch! So pleasing were her words! Her beautiful eyes, her sweet lips! So Delicious was her scent and her taste! I was delirious with a High of Love and Passion I had never known at any time in my life! All was bright in the halls of the palace of beauty that Female made for me! She danced about me giving me Hot & Passionate Pleasure Unending!

  I SNAPPED awake! As an Alarm was sounding loudly in my head! Female said, “Look how Black it is.” The storm had passed. All was a Dead silence. All was total Blackness outside!

            Chapter 21   Prelude to Battle

 The Blackness outside was inky and Total. I returned the cot in the observation bubble to a sitting position. Female still mounted me and clung to me with a worried look on her sweet face. This stillness, this Total Blackness had everyone unnerved. I soothed her bald head with a soft touch and tried to comfort her as she clung to me with her head against my chest. It should have been only about sunset by now….  I scanned about with my handy binoculars. Absolutely Nothing could be seen. The terrain, rather smooth and gritty looking, gradually continued its upward slope toward HS5 our new home. I thought of the safety of the dome of HS5, how it must blank out our heat signatures making us invisible to that Tripod machine we encountered a while ago. …

Female2 sat at the com console. I said, “Get me the head robot at HS5 on the line …

We were due to make contact anyway …. “I have Vincent A100 on line Male1,” said Female2   

… a handsome silvery face addressed me, “VincentA100, Android/Human Relater at your service Male1,”

 … Vincent,” I said. “Do you have any RDVs available?”

“Now let me see,” the android responded. “There are 6 out roving about the county side …  3 down for repairs, 7 in storage, 6 on standby and 4 waiting at the entry port for your arrival,”

 …  Listen Vince, get whatever force you can spare together and send them out here to us now. I think we’ll be under attack very soon.

… “Right you are Male1, I’ll have a force sent right away!”

… No sooner had I clicked off then a report came from Female3 ...

“Contact Male1!  We have an unidentified object coming in …

“What do you make of it I asked?”

“I’d say we have our friend the Tripod back,” said Female3.

I spoke to Female calmly, “Have everyone get into suits in case we have a breach to the outside.” Then a thought occurred to me. Back in my Lab I had stored several cases of flares with pistols and I had brought them along on this journey. … Female got on the convoy mic and relayed my order for suits.  …“Engineers,” I ordered. “Take over manual control of the RDVs … form a line in advance of the bogy, #4 in reserve to the rear … Move out! Males 27, 33 & 43, get those flares ready! Launch them at regular intervals! We’re not going to fight in this darkness!” …

Chapter 22    Desert Battle

 …A sparkle of Blue flashes emitted from the advancing Tripods. … I instructed our Engineers operating the RDVs to zigzag giving the Tripods difficult targets. …The Tripods fired some kind of new weapon carried on an extended forward arm. … they narrowly missed our RDVs once again, this due to the crazy driving of our very adept Engineers. The sound of battle was rising as the conflict approached! …

I said to Male5, “Get us unhitched and move us forward!” With Female nearby I moved back to the observation bubble and got the lasers powered up. Firing again and again RDVs 1 & 3 scored hit after hit … Then as they were swinging around behind the line of advancing Tripods the left most Tripod exploded in a shower of fire and sparks! The heavy machine crashed to the ground from its height of 300 feet … The noise of the battle was tremendous! …  One Tripod was still coming at us from their frontal assault force and RDV #3 was staying on the move … Sparks flew from the Tripod again and again as #3 fired. I was sure that the damage was building! Then a long arm of the Tripod made a lashing sideward move and caught #3 dead on sending it off flying several yards! It rolled and rolled, then came upright again in a cloud of dust!  …  Fresh flares were keeping the field lighted brightly! As well as the firing on both sides.

 …Then we were on the scene in the Command Vehicle and I fired our laser cannon directly at the damaged Tripod! I kept the laser on full and bored a wide hole right through it!

… We made fast tracks … we came upon the Tripod that was attempting a penetration of our colony vehicles on the left rear. …  I poured in laser and machine gun fire at once on it! We were hitting it from the side as it was aiming at our convoy! … It fired its main weapon at our convoy and the blue flame savagely raked the deflection antennas atop the convoy! … They couldn’t take another hit like that!
