Too Dark to Plan Ahead
There’s this mantra going off in my head
Better off lonely than dead
I wonder if I made the wrong decision instead
As I lay here alone trying to sleep in my bed,
She was a little too easy
She seemed so chatty and breezy
Thinking back, it makes me queasy
I should have felt more uneasy,
So I’ll start exploring the unknown
Why are the dead so accident prone?
All those poison seeds you’ve sown
Into the abyss where you’ve been thrown,
Why can’t you pull that sword from the stone?
Did you lose your power from being alone?
All the atrocities they condone
Careful, they might hear you moan,
There’s this mantra going off in my head
The battlefields upon which they bled
The starving children who need to be fed
Do you really believe what you’ve said?
Living on a stage of sight and sound
All the buried bodies have not been found
Spirits rise from the burial mounds
Peasants forced to live in their war torn towns,
There’s this mantra going off in my head
All the good men have fled
While so many live in dread
The future’s too dark to plan ahead.
