In the music world much of the really strong song writing and solid musicianship seems gone today in the studio controlled dumbed Down Market but in the past some great hits were merely copies taken from the original genius who wrote and performed the song. Even British invasion bands like the Beatles and Rolling Stones simply reprised old American black blues songs from the 1950's.
Below are two famous hits made famous by the copy cat band while the original writers and performers got little credit even though they did get the royalties. The song "Liar" is a great example of this.
Rod Stewart made the Song "Reason to Believe" a big hit when it was originally written and performed by Tim Hardin and is a brilliant acoustic recording in its own right.
There will always be renditions of great songs. There are currently 3000 remakes of the Beatles and Paul McCartney's "Yesterday". These songs come from an era when much was thoughtfully written with artists with unique individual styles unlike the group think of today.
