Until You Disappeared from View
Was it the fool in me or the damage in you?
Disturbing the waters in this sea of blue
Struggling below the waves as they grew
Until you disappeared from view,
What is love but a way to get caught?
Off guard, off balance, too high a price to be bought
Yet, there you were, a jewel among the rot
How could I have known what I had got?
You were just a Dust Devil in a sand box
Your black hair too short for locks
After making love pulling up my sox
You were like gold in Fort Knox,
But for the betrayal that we both dabbled in
I, the foolish suitor and you leaving him
Seems we just couldn’t out run our sin
Soon the old pattern you would once again begin,
Love does not come implanted
Nor does it last for those who take it for granted
Little did I know you’d leave me stranded
They should have brought me in single handed,
How could I have foreseen all of this?
Looking for love all with just a kiss
Feeling like a fool feeling hopeless
Playing the game of life hit or miss
You were that odd cloud that blotted out the sun
Casting that shadow that just seemed to stun
Beckoning me to stay when I should have run
Breaking someone else’s heart while I was having fun,
A ghost in the water
The playful splash of a river otter
Rightfully so that I became your cannon fodder
A wiser man would have long ago forgot her.
