Waters of Midnight
When I feel the slippery slope sliding under me
Into the realm of somnambulant reality
Another life awaits far from mental agony
An alternative dimension where I’m free,
In the lonely haze of darkness dreams are there
And for a little while I don’t have a care
Slipping into a new life on a misty stair
Such a contrast from my living nightmares,
Take me oh sorceress of the night
Make me forget about my daytime plight
Caress me in the darkness and hold me tight
And just for a little while everything will feel right,
Snow capped mountains and icy clouds in the sky
Was that my mother’s ghost just passing by?
What are God’s secret’s I hate to pry
Mistress of the nocturne you make me sigh,
The fluttering wings of a turtle dove
Another dimension far removed from push and shove
As though from anything I can rise above
I’ll find that languid angel who fits just like a glove,
Gliding over the moonlight waters of midnight
A reflection with stars beyond, what a sight
The interstellar magician flying his emerald kite
A priestess with long flowing hair to nibble and bite,
Two eyes that look upon me without scorn or hate
Coming from the eyes of a celestial mate
Casting a line of silver through the forbidden gate
Trying to lure a Goddess, her name might be Kate,
Then the edges of the horizon ignite from the dawn
And I arise from this couch I’ve been sleeping on
My escape route from reality is just about gone
The dew glistens from out there on the lawn.
