Boycott ‘just occurred to me,’ Republican front-runner says
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday called for a boycott of Apple until the company hands over information the U.S. government wants on an terror suspect’s phone.
The U.S. government wants Apple AAPL, -0.23% to disable certain security measures on the phone, once used by Syed Rizwan Farook, a suspect in the attack in which 14 people were shot and killed in the California city.
“Boycott Apple until such time as they give that information,” Trump said at a campaign event, Reuters reported. “It just occurred to me,” Trump said.
It’s not an unusual tactic for the real-estate tycoon. Trump has advocated boycotting Macy’s M, -2.19% — which dropped Trump-themed apparel from its stores — and Oreos. Oreos producer Nabisco has cut jobs in Chicago and increased investment in Mexico.
However, Trump tweets have come from an iPhone, according to an analysis of his recent messages.

It’s possible that some of those messages have been sent from his campaign. In October, Gizmodo analyzed a picture of Trump with his phone, and said it’s probably a Samsung S6. A Trump spokeswoman told Reuters the candidate does not use an iPhone.
Trump also revealed in a Federal Election Commission filing that he owned Apple stock. According to the filing, he held at least $2 million worth of the stock. That’s a very small part of the Trump fortune that runs into the billions of dollars.
