White Smoke Pours from Vatican Chimney, New Pope Elected

White smoke has billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, signaling the election of a new pope to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics, NBC News reported.
The new pope was selected Wednesday, chosen among 115 cardinal electors to bring stability to a roiling Catholic Church that was left leaderless by the Feb. 28 abdication of Pope Benedict XVI.
