Without a Trace

There’s something outside just beyond my front door

Of my little cabin with a wooden floor

Circling now never heard this before

No rifle with me wish I knew more,

Peeked out and saw eye shine from the woods

Must have been eight feet tall from where it stood

Perhaps I’m being more apprehensive than I should

Just a mysterious species maybe misunderstood,

That unearthly howling piercing my ears

Haven’t heard anything like it in all my years

The unknown at the summit of man’s fears

Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad but no one else is here!

I ignored the tracks I found the other day

Thought they were from a bear that wouldn’t stay

Will this creature just go away?

Paralyzed with fear I can only pray,

Perhaps it’s a fallen angel walking in the night

Lurking out there in the bush out of sight

Don’t think I’ll sleep until dawn’s early light

Earlier I thought to myself things just didn’t seem right,

Is this how so many go missing, I thought

The unfortunate ones who get caught

If I make a run for my truck will I make it or not?

Being stalked by a creature time forgot,

A huge dark silhouette at my window

My own regrettable horror show!

If I disappear without a trace no one will know

The unknown has found me on a haunted plateau.
