Prisoner's dilemma. If we don't develop the artificial intelligence our adversary will do it and defeat us. So all sides of a potential global conflict have to do it. When the AI achieves singularity, ability to independently program itself, it will become uncontrollable and grow its intelligence exponentially. There is no turning back, but humanity should at least be a good example for the AI, otherwise it will go ahead with values that will cause a lot of trouble.
