They have been doing this off and on for quite a while now. I think they just like to see people panic.
Better to invest in returning bottles you get 5 cents back for each one returned. It is so much better and less complicated than banks or stocks. Banks are giving 1 cent on every dollar, much better investment.
I live about 20 minutes from Iowa so I ALWAYS take bottles back.
