Is artificial intelligence and its power consumption a driving force behind the need for more electricit?. Where is the "holy" sustainability in this?

According to Copilot

Prospects of data center power consumption for the next ten years?

Copilot said:

The power consumption of data centers is expected to continue rising significantly over the next decade. Here are some key projections:

Global Increase: Data center power consumption is forecasted to more than double between 2022 and 20261. This surge is driven by the growing demand for internet services, cloud computing, and the integration of energy-intensive technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

U.S. Trends: In the U.S., data centers consumed about 150 TWh of electricity in 2023, which is around 3% of the nation's power demand2. By 2030, this could increase to between 5% and 9% of U.S. electricity generation annually2.

Efficiency Improvements: Despite the increase in power consumption, there are ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency in data centers. This includes advancements in cooling technologies, more efficient hardware, and the use of renewable energy sources.

Regional Variations: Certain regions, like Northern Virginia's "Data Center Alley," are seeing particularly rapid growth. This area alone is expected to add 11 GW of data center capacity by 2030.

NOTE: 11GW is equal to nine modern 1200MW nuclear power plants.
