I can see the use of silver as being more practicable than that of gold, it can be traded or swapped with ease and is trusted. Silver coins are more worthwhile for survival possibilities it seems. People are more willing to accept them in exchange for money. sometimes low minted numbers of collectable 1/4 oz gold coins can be traded for 10 oz or more of regular or numerical silver coins.
