We knew about the spy program yes, but we did not have 'empirical evidence' of it. Snowden provided this via wikileaks. That's why Snowden is a big deal. What he did was much like what B. Franklin did once upon a time with those inciting letters that were intercepted and published by that patriot propaganda newspaper the Boston Gazette. The founders published the tyranny for the colonies to read with their own eyes.

I doubt very seriously Snowden is a fraud. This whole NSA spy scandel has blown up in their face. If it was some type of ridiculous ploy concocted by the PTB it was beyond stupid and has not helped them in the least bit. They make mistakes from time to time sure, but this would have been an epic failure that has not served them in the least bit. Looks like history repeating itself to me...

It's as if it was "that time in the agenda" to officially announce that the NSA/gov't is spying on it's citizens.  We (conspiracy nutters) have been saying that shit for years, including William Binney.  But all went ignored till recently.  Perhaps the motivator is to restrict our freedom of speaking/ writing for fear that they/NSA will be listening and recording /compiling a profile and putting you "on the list".  Makes the most sense that Snowden would be controlled opposition, thereby keeping control of how the story unfolds.  A real whistleblower could say the wrong things....

I think Snowden is being used, thus a part of the problem. Curious tho, who can we trust HG?
