It's not just cobalt mining...Lithium extraction harms the soil and causes air contamination.  The lithium extraction process uses a lot of water—approximately 500,000 gallons per metric ton of lithium.  This can use up to 65% of a dryer regions water which takes the supply from farmers, etc.  It also contaminates the ground water, killing fish and anything that drinks that water.

It will continue as long as they can keep the idea of little children working in these toxic mines in some poor country out of sight of the virtue-signaling "Green New Deal" group.

Oh sorry that story below was the wrong battery one but I guess a reminder for batteries in general. When electric cars explode they burn up much hotter than a normal car ever could and escape would be slim. Even something to think about if you're parked next to them.

That is so true a complete scam from start to end. There are big incentives being given for new EV purchases as promotion ramps up at the same time as EVs start to explode all over the place and beyond. EVs are like ticking times that can go off at any moment. Sometimes even when parked up and then suddenly Boom... just like that.  For every story that makes it to the paper there must be many that don't.
