Last week, police raided Tommy Robinson’s family home at 4 a.m. and took him to jail.

His crime? Attempted journalism.

Tommy was filming a report for The Rebel at the court house in Canterbury, UK, about a Muslim rape gang that was on trial. He was on the steps outside — where countless journalists have done reports before. Where the police themselves often have press conferences.

Court officers came outside and told him not to film any jurors — and Tommy didn’t. He didn’t film anything inside the court rooms. He didn’t film the trial itself. He didn’t even film any of the accused rapists — the police helped them sneak out another door, to avoid our cameras.

But for that non-crime, police raided Tommy’s home at 4 a.m. That’s what they normally do to terrorists. Not journalists.

We immediately hired a top UK law firm, who managed to get Tommy released some 13 hours later.

The court has ordered Tommy not to talk about the case. But I can still speak out — and I’m here to say, Tommy has been there for us time and again. So let’s be there for Tommy, and his family, when he needs us the most.

We have hired a first-rate legal team. We’ll make sure that the case for Tommy, and the case for free speech and freedom of the press, is made forcefully in court on Monday.

But as you can imagine, that costs a lot of money — between last week’s appearance, and Monday’s, that’s more than £10,000. I know, it’s nuts. But the alternative is much worse, don’t you think?
