Lately, Ecuador seems to be the go to place where whistleblowers go to seek political asylum. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been granted asylum in the South American country, but the only problem he is trapped in the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Now, American Whistleblower Edward Snowden is causing more friction between US-Ecuadorian relations due to his attempt at escaping extradition to the US for leaking NSA sensitive information regarding their surveillance program. Ecuador has since renounced its trade agreements with the US.
