At approximately seven in the evening a group protesting the execution of Troy Davis at Union Square Park began a march towards Liberty Square, formerly known as Zuccotti park. The two groups joined up and marched on Wall Street. At least six protesters were arrested. They are being held at the first precinct. As of now we only have four names: Joseph Jordan; Brandon King; Augustine Castro; Freddy Bastone.
Is that a "surprise"? This disparity very much defines the American legal system and its "credibility". And no, despite popular belief, blacks aren't the worst affected by this (speaking percentage wise, of course):
Nationally, 47 percent of inmates are black and another 15 percent from other minorities, compared to only 38 percent white. Fifty-two percent of those on parole are white, 47 percent black, and 1 percent from other minorities. The discrepancy is even greater for probation, where 68 percent are white compared to only 30 percent black and 2 percent from other minorities.
I think one of the biggest faults of the whole appeals process is that no "new" evidence can be introduced. All the witnesses can come and say they lied and all the jurors can come and confess that they convicted wrongfully and it makes not a damn bit of difference as an appeals process is concerned only with finding "a legal defect in the decision", truth be damned!!!
