UK police are primarily revenue collectors and enforcers of state policy.
They do nothing to follow up most crime against ordinary people - anyone who has been a victim of crime in the UK, will be familiar with the standard policy of the police fobbing victims off with a crime number - and little if no follow up.
(That's unless they take the side of the perp against the victim)
They do not act in the interests of / service to the British people - this is evident by the fact that they do not adhere to any of the Peelian principles that Sir Robert Peel developed.
People seem to forget that these costumed enforcers only contractually derive their authority from those they are (supposedly) in service to / employed by - i.e the British people - when that contract is broken, the presumed authority is no longer in effect.
