CHAMP, you might be thinking of is a legendary cryptid supposedly existing in the waters of Lake Champlain between Vermont and the State of New York. Much like, Ogo Pogo in Lake Kanagan in British Columbia, and even the Loch Ness Monster, all having similarities to the supposedly extinct Plesiosaur, a long necked dinosaur with a snake-like head, but you’d be mistaken! Champ is a military acronym that we’ll get into.

CHAMP stands for Counter Electronics High Power Advanced Microwave Advanced Missile Project! With a similarity to the previous cruise missile carried by the B-52 Stratofortress that was a conventional kinetic type of ordnance, the CHAMP missile works with a different strategy. This missile neutralizes all enemy installation computers, cables, radar equipment, sensors, silicon chips, and disk drives, thus rendering a surface to air missile launch facility useless for good not just temporarily! This system has been in existence since 2019, but some speculate longer than that. This form of electronic suppression can destroy communications and detection capability without wrecking buildings and other structures.

By using a rapid burst microwave system encased in a conventional cruise missile that can travel at 60 foot elevation at speeds of 550 knots, this non-lethal form of anti-electronic counter measure eclipses the need for simply taking out a high valued enemy installation simply rendering it ineffective!
