Woke up feeling a bit strange
Realizing all common sense was out of range
They all resist positive change
Mankind’s thinking needs to be rearranged
Predictably the news was full of lies
It's the heroes that they want to chastise
I can see it in their paranoid eyes
The insanity they cannot disguise
Oh those dismal days
When I can't bring myself to pray,
The reality that you juxtapose
All the truth you put in death throes
All decency you would dispose
The insanity that you propose,
Going to plead with the man upstairs
And find out if he really cares
It seems tragedy comes in pairs
Think I’ve had enough despair,
Oh those dismal days
When I can't bring myself to pray,
I remember when I held you near
Today things don’t seem so clear
After all, I’m a flawed seer
Unable to decipher the smoke and mirrors,
Today, let me pray for rain
If I’m not too vain
And wash away this pain
I fear I’m on alien terrain,
Oh those dismal days
When I can't bring myself to pray,
Thoughts that so easily blow away
In this world of perpetual dismay
If I can just keep the ghosts of yesteryear at bay
And maybe I’ll believe what you say,
Something inside urges me to survive
It keeps me just barely alive
God urges us to thrive
But the world has become a servant bee hive,
Oh those dismal days
When I can't bring myself to pray.
