A Norwegian man has according to the prosecutor tried to blackmail the Freemasons by threatening to reveal their secrets.
A judge in Copenhagen's Judicial Department has detained a 67-year-old Norwegian man suspected of extortion against the Freemason Order.
According to the indictment against the man, he has tried to blackmail the Freemasons for NOK 33 million (3.9 mill. dollars).
If the money was not paid, footage of the lodge's secret admittance rituals would be published, the man threatened.
The crime has been reported both in Denmark and Norway.
The 67-year-old was handed over from Norway on Monday, and on Tuesday he was put in front a judge, who found the accused eligible for custody detention.
For almost a year - from January 26th to November 2nd last year - the man has secretly recorded videos of ritual ceremonies and meetings at the Mason's building on Blegdamsvej in Copenhagen and in the lodge in Norway.
The man allegedly used the recordings to blackmail the Freemasons Order for NOK 33 million in order not to publish his recordings. The extortion began on April 27th and stopped when he was arrested.
The man acknowledges the facts in the case, but he refuses to comment further in court.
He is currently being detained for 27 days.
