Thorton was sentenced after being found guilty of possession of an unregistered firearm and "possession of a firearm without a serial number."
While issuing pardons is certainly the president's prerogative, this particular pardon comes as the NRA, Gun Owners of America, and others are all making the case that one of the chief reasons behind gun crime is the Obama administration's lax enforcement of gun laws that are already on the books.
That Thorton was one of 17 persons pardoned by Obama on March 1, will only add fuel to this argument.
30 years ago, would have said, "Jumpin CheezNcrakkers! What kinda batchit craziness is this?"
now its more like, "WTF?...ya didn't set Mr Thornton up with the Brick Rancher w/ pool and and a new Range Rover as well?"
been in bizzarro werld too long I guess ;)
Remember, one reason why gun control has been avoided for years is because of lobbying from the arms industry. That's the same industry that profits from sales not only to citizens but to the government.
The government is probably now testing the waters. In the end, whether or not gun control will be enforced is dependent on what the financial elite want.
