‘I thought he was going to shoot me.’ Unsuspecting middle school students terrified by active shooter drill.
Police officers in Florida surprised students, teachers and parents Thursday with an active shooter drill. And by “active shooter drill,” we mean that a Winter Haven middle school went into lockdown as two armed police officers burst into classrooms, guns drawn, leaving the unsuspecting children terrified — and their parents furious.
According to Fox affiliate WTVT, officials at Jewett Middle Academy e-mailed parents to inform them of the drill, after it took place. By that point, WTVT reports, cellphones were already filling up with texts from frightened students, who thought there was a real shooter in the school.
In a later statement to The Post, spokesperson Jamie Brown for the Winter Haven police department said they were only aware of one student who texted a parent during the exercise.
“Unfortunately, no one gets an advanced notice of real life emergencies,” Polk County Public Schools spokesman Jason Gearey said in an e-mailed statement to The Washington Post. “We don’t want students to be scared, but we need them to be safe.”

We'll scare the crap out of you children, bursting into their classrooms with our guns aimed at their heads, at the request of the school's administration - 'we need them to be safe'?

yeah we dont want them to be scared.. just safe then for pete sake educate how to love one another and stop the stereotyping .. and finger pointing.. this is only teaching children to Fear the law not look to it for help

i think honestly this is going to led to lawsuits for PTSD and a bunch of other tagged conditions as a result of unnecessary trauma to our youth

I have trained my children and grand children what to do and how to act. They all learned weapons when they were 7 or younger. They all have been to the range multiple times. Handled everything from a 22 to an AK-47. Including breakdown and cleaning.
However in the classroom they do not have access to weapons. yet they have been taught if the criminals get in they will be killed so how do they want to die? Cowering or kicking ass?
I will really enjoy it when some overzealous cop arrives dressed as a criminal and my kids hit them with books and chairs then pile on screaming while kicking ass.

I unfortunately do not have children; however I care for my young niece often. This infuriates me. I am so mad I am shaking and can barely type. If those Nazis scared my niece, I do not know what I would do. My niece has come to me many times because she was scared at school over various drills of hiding under her desk or moving to the gym. She doesn't understand why they are scaring her or what's happening. One day this will stop and its our place to isolate and dismantle the protagonists.

To 5warveteran it those kids beat up the bad guys, that video would go viral. I would pay to see that. However, I be afraid of the cops striking back and injuring children in the name of self defense.

Yes Viral. At the same time they understand that to wait to see if it is a "Drill" and find it is not would mean their deaths. Better first to kick ass and take names later. Yes the cops may hurt them, they also would be responsible as would the school district and the City.
Other than a laughing stock the police would have no feet to stand on.

It is like those night time unannounced raids. The cops get shot, well it is an unfortunate circumstance and an occupational hazard. Same thing for criminals breaking in there is always a chance they will be harmed or worse.
I prefer worse because it keeps beds open at the jail. Costs less to the taxpayers.
