BTW... this is a forced migration and it isn't something that any one of us admins are fond about, I assure you.
So... there will be no video section on Ning 3.0 and we have no guarantee that the 1000's of vid's added here on 12160 will be saved and migrated eventually onto the new platform. You will be able to embed vid's in discussions and blogs still however.
We're beholden to Ning, our hosting site and that really sucks. We're damned if we do, damned if we don't. It's not like we have other choices unfortunately. And we don't want to see 12160 go by the wayside. Admins and members alike have worked very hard to keep 12160 alive for seven years so let us hope we can keep it alive for seven more :)
Go to pin it and store all the videos you want - it is free.
here is my link there - give it a try . .
And if you didn't know already, 12160 turned SEVEN Years Old !! DEC 30th
I'm thinking what is this, this sounds like death ?
Well, James pretty much summed it up last year in a post about this issue. UPDATE! The end is Ning http://12160.info/forum/topics/the-end-is-ning
We did have ample warning... just saying ;)
Some people are set to 'invisible'. I'm one of them. :)
Yes, it is an upgrade of the system but it is still a forced migration because we are not being given a choice whether we wanted to make the move unto ning 3.0 or not. All ning networks have to upgrade to it whether they like it or not. And not knowing for sure if our videos will ever transfer over to the new platform is not comforting. That is really our main source of frustration.
And I agree, member participation has not been the most active in the last few years and I blame a big part of that on Facebook. Before Facebook became super popular, 12160 was active 24/7. But as Facebook's popularity grew, our activity dwindled.
And what Deep Space said. Many members do not sign into the chat room so they remain hidden. Also, we do have many members/non members that come here to read the articles but don't ever log in or sign up at all.
This website without video how useful is that , ouch
HUGE oversight for ning. Shame on them. If they can't figure out how to migrate video then can it really be called an "upgrade"? (that happens to cost a helluva lot more).
It says photo albums will be lost forever. Hmmm. That sucks.
It is the same on all sites . . the forum participation is way down. to many were trying to make profits ahead of quality.
12160 - profit? you're kidding right?
