Possible upcoming attempts to disable the Tor network

The Tor Project has learned that there may be an attempt to incapacitate our network in the next few days through the seizure of specialized servers in the network called directory authorities. (Directory authorities help Tor clients learn the list of relays that make up the Tor network.) We are taking steps now to ensure the safety of our users, and our system is already built to be redundant so that users maintain anonymity even if the network is attacked. Tor remains safe to use.

We hope that this attack doesn't occur; Tor is used by many good people. If the network is affected, we will immediately inform users via this blog and our Twitter feed @TorProject, along with more information if we become aware of any related risks to Tor users.

~Yes, my inside sources have informed me that the FBI is planning to take down parts of the Tor network as part of the investigation into the source of the Sony hack by North Korean sympathizers.

~(To be clear, I don't know who this person is and as far as I know this isn't the person who tipped us off to write the blog post. That said, if you know something we need to know, please tell us!)

~So it does have to do with the Sony hack? I read on CNN that the hackers were routed through severs in Asia, Europe, Latin America and even some in the US.

Obama vows U.S. response to North Korea over Sony cyber attack

President Barack Obama said on Friday that Sony Pictures Entertainment made a mistake in pulling the 'The Interview' from theaters, after the FBI announced that North Korea was responsible for the cyber attack on the entertainment company.

Privacy and anonymity will always be under attack in so-called 'free' and 'democratic' societies until we learn any better.

Evan Goldberg wonders if the Sony hack was an inside job

The codirector of The Interview spoke to the Straight this week about a variety of things, including what it’s like to wake up in the morning with gay James Franco in your life. On the subject of the notorious hack—which has plunged Sony Pictures into a deeply embarrassing crisis—the Vancouver-raised filmmaker pleaded ignorance.

“My gut instinct was, ‘Oh no, is it the North Koreans?’” said Goldberg, calling from Los Angeles while he ate a gluten-free sandwich, speaking of gay.

“For two seconds it was the North Koreans, and then the younger guys in our office who know way more about computers were, like, ‘No way. You’d have to know Sony’s network, it has to be somebody on the inside.’"

This whole Sony Hack sounds like another false flag meant to stir up possibly another war situation for our beloved war mongers in chief! And the war will be on the internet this time. It will translate into more censorship and lack of privacy on the internet.

Sony Hack: New Evidence Points to Inside Job, Security Experts Say

Despite the FBI declaring that North Korea was behind the devastating cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, security experts continue to believe that the hack was an inside job, reports The Security Ledger.

Security firm Norse claims it has evidence that shows the Sony hack was perpetrated by six individuals, including two based in the U.S., one in Canada, one in Singapore and one in Thailand. Norse senior vp Kurt Stammberger told the Ledger, a security industry news website, that among the six was one former Sony Pictures employee, a ten-year veteran of the company with a very technical background who was laid off in May following restructuring.
