As this was touted on tonight's Tucker Carlson (link set to start at 19:59) by Dr. Joel (((Siegel))), of course -
I of course wanted to check it out as to safety, adverse reactions, etc. That
was not an edifying endeavor, unfortunately.
Anti-viral Remdesivir, Wall Street’s darling, may not even work aga...

The Dow Jones surged more than 700 points Friday — sparked largely by what investors saw as a promising study on Remdesivir, an anti-viral drug and possible COVID-19 treatment by Gilead Sciences. As it happens, Gilead’s stock jumped nearly 10 percent on Friday as well.
... First of all, Remdesivir is an anti-viral drug, meaning it inhibits the reproduction of the virus in someone’s body...
Dr. Annie Luetkemeyer, an infectious disease professor at UCSF, explained that the drug is not yet approved but is in multiple clinical trials. She took viewers through an April 10 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. That is not the study that excited investors on Friday (that one was done by the University of Chicago)... There was no control group for either and it’s difficult to know if the drug helped the patients or if they improved on their own.
... The study focused on 53 patients suffering from severe COVID-19 symptoms. Thirty-four of them had ventilation support. They all had been given the drug roughly 12 days after showing symptoms, and this was done once a day for 10 days.
After a median of 18 days of treatment, 68 percent of all the patients 'improved' and 47 percent were discharged from the hospital. And of those who were intubated (30 of the 53), 57 percent were extubated.
Eighteen percent (or six of the 34) who were ventilated died and 1 patient who was not on ventilation died as well.
'But again, in the absence of a control arm, what can we say about this?' Luetkemeyer said. 'Did Remdesivir do better than expected? [Or] Is this what you would have seen had they not received any medication at all?'
The same was true with side effects — liver function abnormalities, rash, diarrhea, or kidney infection. Sixty percent of patients had an 'adverse event' with these symptoms, and 23 percent had a 'serious adverse event.'
But, without a control group, she said it was difficult to tell if those were just the symptoms of COVID-19, which are similar..."

In addition, the Wikipedia page for Remdesivir has no section listing side effects / adverse reactions. Although they are apparently severe, and although the drug is in the national news, and has made a splash in the stock market. This increased public interest, one would think, would encourage the "encyclopedia of the internet" to have a complete article on the subject. Most all Wiki pages on drugs (including experimental ones) include a section on side effects, in my extensive experience reading these pages, for a wide variety of drugs.

This article from Biospace.com has a positive headline, Early Data from Gilead’s Compassionate Use of Remdesivir for COVID-... , however, if you scroll down in the article, you come to this -
"Researchers doubt this recent study data is anything more than suggestive, if that.
'The data from this paper are almost uninterpretable,' Stephen Evans, a professor of pharmacoepidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, told Bloomberg. 'There is some evidence suggesting efficacy, but we simply do not know what would have happened to these patients had they not been given the drug.' "
and this -
"about 25% of patients receiving it have severe side effects, including multiple-organ dysfunction syndrome, septic shock, acute kidney injury and low blood pressure. Another 23% demonstrated evidence of liver damage on lab tests."
Wanna try? I, for one, am less than impressed. Sounds like someone making a lot of money, while saving people from "a fate worse than death"[/gallows humor]. These known adverse reactions are very serious, and can require long-term (and very profitable) treatment. There are no doubt pharma co bean counters and other executives rubbing their hands at the thought of, and with endearing colloquial terms, acronyms or abbreviations for the downstream carnage from treatment with their toxic drug. Think of Remdesivir as an acorn which will grow into a huge money tree for Big Pharma. Under the guise of a knowingly false platitude such as "it's for the children". Especially when govt gets into the act in a big way. Keep all this in mind, please. Much can be pushed on the public during a crisis, and it is well-known that many prescription drugs do far more harm than good, individually and statistically.
