Speculative: Friendly Aliens will Protect Small Governments and Countries that Join them

The above text from Veterans today article is pure speculation, but it has an interesting idea. While the leaders and the powers deep in shadow have taken our civilisation into a chaos and decadence, why not kick them out and join the "Galactic Federation".
