‘We’ll protect your private data’: CISPA-embracing Facebook tries to calm users’ fears

Facebook has defended its support of the controversial cybersecurity bill CISPA. In an address to alleviate fears that the legislation will result in massive sharing of private user data with the government, the social network promised not do to it.

In a blog post on Friday, Joel Kaplan, vice president of US public policy at Facebook, argued that if enacted into law, the bill would “give companies like ours the tools we need to protect our systems and the security of our users’ information, while also providing those users confidence that adequate privacy safeguards are in place.”

He stressed that sharing of data on the part of companies would not be compulsory and pledged that Facebook has no intention to disclose sensitive user data to the US government.

Earlier Kaplan praised the bill in a letter to Michael Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence committee, saying that it “removes burdensome rules that currently can inhibit protection of the cyber ecosystem, and helps provide a more established structure for sharing within the cyber community while still respecting the privacy rights and expectations of our users.”

Yeah, Kaplan is gutsy. He tries to mix "privacy" and "sharing" in the same sentence. HA! We all know he's perpetuating big brother's "Total Information Awareness" program. If the CIA gave out awards like "Man of the Year" . . . he'd be at the top of the nomination list.

ya really gonna believe this crap???.....FecesBook is controlled by CIA, NSA, which in turn is part of the Criminals on The Hill, and who the hell trusts those lying criminal pricks ;)

@Hollywood: I know who controls facebook and I am as incredulous as you are to CISPA being legislation of benign means. Facebook has and always will be a social network of surreptitious means!

lol...that wasn't really directed towards you personally....guess I should have worded that diff...dohhhhhh

meant for the sleepers :)

@Hollywood: My mistake my friend.

It sound like doublespeak to me !I won't trust them !

Aha ! So Facebok recognizes users fear its policies, I wonder how many had already dropped out
