There is some really exciting new research on stem cells, and it may be the answer to a disease that is becoming an epidemic in the United States...
Over 4 million people worldwide have diabetes, and that number is expected to rise to 600 million by 2035, according to the International Diabetes Federation.
Did you know?: Diabetes decreases life expectancy by 8.5 years, according to the latest research.
In fact, Diabetes is the #3 killer in America!
And diabetes isn’t just about managing your sugar and insulin levels. If left untreated, diabetes can lead to serious problems like heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, nerve damage, and even damage to your eyes.
And diabetes rates in the United States are some of the highest in the world…
Because of the high-sugar, high-carb, high saturated-fat and low fiber diet prevalent in the United States, combined with a sedentary lifestyle of video games and checking Facebook, obesity and diabetes are at an all-time high.
How bad could it really be?
According to the US Centers for Disease Control, a whopping 40% of Americans are currently living with diabetes or prediabetes.
To put that number in perspective, only 7% of adults in Japan have diabetes.
Let me ask you a question…
What states do you think have the worst rates of diabetes?
It’s the low-income, low-education states that have cultures of high-carb dinners and soda pops after school.
Just take a look at the map and see for yourself….
As you can see from the map, most of the states with the highest rates of diabetes are south of the Mason-Dixon line.
And the outlook for the younger generations is even worse!
Consider this…
Just 15 years ago, Type 2 Diabetes in children was almost unheard of. And recent research shows that Type 2 diabetes in 10- to 19-year-olds had increased 21 percent between 2001 and 2009.
And the numbers keep going up…
GOOD NEWS if you like stem cells…
The research on the potential for stem cells to be an effective defense against diabetes is very promising.
For example, a study from 2017 from Denmark found that stem cells can become insulin-producing cells, and those healthy insulin-producing cells can be transplanted into diabetes patients. The article was published in the prestigious journal of Nature Cell Biology.
If you search around, there are doctors already promoting the use of stem cell therapy as powerful, non-invasive treatment for diabetes.
As early as the 1990s, doctors were transplanting tissue that would help restore insulin-producing cells in the patient. The problem was that a lot of immunosuppressive drugs were needed to make the transplant work, and many of those transplants were rejected.
But with stem cells, depending on the method used, there is no need for immunosuppressive drugs and no risk of transplant rejection.
The basics:
Diabetes is the body's inability to effectively regulate sugar in the blood. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, regulates sugar levels in the blood.
When working properly, the pancreas releases insulin when blood sugar levels rise, like after eating a meal. The insulin helps the body’s cells take in the sugar and use it as energy.
In someone with diabetes, their insulin-response system is not working in some way (e.g., not enough insulin is produced or released).
This elevated blood sugar means that the body is not using energy effectively, AND it puts the body at risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure.
Many people with diabetes need to take insulin regularly to manually regulate their blood sugar levels.
HOW do stem cells help with Diabetes?
Here is the process: Healthy stem cells, either from your own body or from another source, could be isolated in a lab, and those cells are coaxed into differentiating into insulin-producing cells. Those cells are then inserted into your body where they replenish your insulin-producing cells and help restore a healthy insulin-response in your body.
Inflammation is the enemy!
When we are chronically stressed or eat unhealthy food, our body becomes inflamed. That inflammation can cause damage to our bodies, damage our stem cells, and cause insulin resistance and lead to diabetes.
Here are 3 things you can do to reduce inflammation so you can prevent diabetes AND support the growth of new stem cells in your body:
==>Stop drinking soda pop. Not only does it spike your blood sugar, but soda is        highly inflammatory.
==>Go for a walk. Research shows that walking outside, especially in nature, can lower stress and keep you fit and lean (one of the leading causes of diabetes is obesity).
==>Spend more time with people you love! When we are with people we love, our body secretes the hormone oxytocin, which reduces stress and feels good in our bodies. And decreasing your stress is one of the most powerful ways to reduce inflammation.
We hope you enjoyed this blog post!
More importantly, we really care about your health and well-being, and we hope that you use this information and take action to grow more stem cells, combat inflammation, and prevent diabetes.
