Hold on to your seats folks but I am the owner of a nearly 200ft ex military vessel that was actually used to test and develop the VOSS skimming system and the day of the spill I was in contact with B P. and registered my ship and told I would be among the first larger ships to be contracted due to her history and abilities.never actually talked to anyone in person after that call . then I saw this guy .Francois Vorster of Super Suck international on msnbc check out the website at supersuckinternational.com . got to go to work now i will tell more later .

Amazingly, there is not as much mindless prattle about the problem on this blog as others. For everyone concerned please do not listen to anything by Matt Simmons as he is absolutely clueless about the problem and has created unwarranted hysteria. I am a petroleum engineer and have drilled oil & gas wells for over 30 years and have actually been on the rig floor taking a kick.

For the record the problem occurred because we have a generation of engineers that have been managed by accountants. When the accountants took over raises,promotions and bonuses have all been based upon cutting costs rather than producing oil without killing people. We now have engineers that think their job is to cut costs. In short, this is what caused the disaster without going into extensive detail technical detail.

Just to clarify some misconceptions. A "top kill" is never easy is the best of circumstances and under theses conditions was a waste of time. The "bottom kill" from the relief wells will work and has been performed 100's of times. It really doesn't matter if the casing is split, the weighted fluid will work. The main problem is how long before they intercept the old wellbore. Trying to hit a target 8 1/2" wide 2 1/2 miles away in the dark isn't easy.
