By late Tuesday, the water meant to cool spent fuel rods in the No. 4 reactor was boiling, Japan’s nuclear watchdog said. If the water evaporates and the rods run dry, they could overheat and catch fire, potentially spreading radioactive materials in dangerous clouds.

 

Temperatures appeared to be rising in the spent fuel pools at two other reactors at the plant, No. 5 and No. 6, said Yukio Edano, the chief cabinet secretary. Meanwhile, workers continued to pump seawater into the No. 1 and No. 3 reactors, where cooling systems remained unusable.

 

If any of the spent fuel rods in the pools do indeed catch fire, nuclear experts say, the high heat would loft the radiation in clouds that would spread the radioactivity.

“It’s worse than a meltdown,” said David A. Lochbaum, a nuclear engineer at the Union of Concerned Scientists who worked as an instructor on the kinds of General Electric reactors used in Japan. “The reactor is inside thick walls, and the spent fuel of Reactors 1 and 3 is out in the open.”

They are scared about radiation reaching Tokyo and also many of their parents’ companies are taking them either down south, or out of Japan altogether. School has been cancelled and it is all really slow here. I really do hope that I won’t have to leave as well.”

If the following letter posted by the BBC Blog is indicative of prevailing popular mood in the Japanese capital now that the government has lost credibility (as Zero Hedge predicted on Saturday), Tokyo may soon be a ghost town.

Mikan in Tokyo writes: “There is a growing sense that the Japanese government is not telling us the true story. On one end, there is the Japanese media that plays down the nuclear drama and focuses on human drama, and at the other, the foreign media is up-playing the nuclear disaster. In my company I heard at least half the essential staff is being sent to Hong Kong, Singapore or even Sydney. I am preparing to leave Tokyo and/or Japan. So are many of my friends. There is a sense of deserting Tokyo as soon as possible.”

Spirulina powder is also also a very good thing to have on hand as it has alot of trace minerals from the sea.It can be a little expensive but worth it. Mix it in a power drink

The wind currents will blow over parts of Alaska and maybe even to the H.A.A.R.P. but you can be sure they are ready for it being the U.S.Navy.

you can see steam coming out of building 3 ... that has to be coming from the reactor! if its still in tact its just venting the radioactive steam right into the atmosphere

best image showing the aftermath of the two blasts, it doesn't show the latest explosion which is that building between the two damaged ones. Look at reactor 3 DAMN!! your telling me MSM that building isn't a melt down !?!? look at chernobyl thats about the same look!!
