SOME SAY JINDAL'S NATIONAL AMBITIONS, FEAR OF RON PAUL ARE REASONS FOR LA CAUCUS DELAY
January 12, 2012--3:43 AM CDT
Yesterday, THE DEAD PELICAN reported that there was growing frustration over the fact that the Louisiana Republican presidential caucus had not yet been scheduled.
Many fear that the caucus could be pushed back as far as April. If that were to happen, Mitt Romney would benefit. This has led to rumors that Romney's people are pressuring the Louisiana State Central Committee's Executive Committee to push the Caucus back.
But is the pressure coming directly from the Romney campaign? Or somewhere else?
Statewide talk radio host Moon Griffon believes that pressure to move the caucus to April is coming from Governor Bobby Jindal.
"Jindal raises big money for the Republican party, so they do what he wants," Griffon told THE DEAD PELICAN.
Griffon says that Jindal wants a VP spot(or some other position) if the next U.S. president is a Republican.
Jindal's desire for the national spotlight is no secret, but the governor's endorsed presidential candidate (Texas Governor Rick Perry) has plummeted in the polls. The media is now touting Mitt Romney as the presumptive Republican nominee.
Many believe that Jindal is pushing for the Louisiana caucus to take place in April to suit Romney.
"He's doing it to further his national ambitions," Griffon told THE DEAD PELICAN. Griffon said that if the Louisiana Republican Caucus were held today, Texas Congressman Ron Paul would win.
Mr. Griffon is not alone in his thinking, and some are saying that fear of a Ron Paul victory could be another factor in the delay of the caucus.
In a written statement, John K. Roberts, (who runs TAXPAYERSOFLOUISIANA.COM) said that "The lack of setting the caucus date by the SCC executive board is a fear of Ron Paul.
"Ron Paul has a statewide organization in Louisiana, nearly a dozen paid staff and many, many organizing volunteers. In the last few months hundreds of other part time volunteers have placed tens of thousands of voter contact calls. No other Republican candidate has a real grassroots organization in Louisiana."
In the same statement, Roberts called upon "his friend" GOP state chairman Roger Villerie to "let the Louisiana Republican Caucus date for February 25th as was originally intended and let Ron Paul have a chance to make a historical impact on the 2012 Republican race and especially in Louisiana." You can read Mr. Roberts' complete statement here.
