Senior military figures, diplomats and officials in Yemen are abandoning their president of the last 32 years.

Ali Abdullah Saleh's government has been beseiged for weeks by protests in the capital Sanaa.

On Friday, more than 50 were killed in a crackdown on the streets. By Sunday, president Saleh had sacked all of his ministers.

And in the capital Sanaa, tanks rolled onto the streets, guarding the presidential Palace.

Thousands of people are protesting at the city's university, calling for a revolution.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher has the latest.

Enlightened freethinking in my book! :) Thanks Henry. 

I agree that government must be minimalised, and maybe restructured. I am not speaking US, but the Netherlands of course.

We now have a representational system where we get stuck with some people for four years. I'm thinking a direct system might work better. Or a layered direct system that comes into being only when issues and/or problems come up. Come to think of it that's a system the ancients used.

The Nordic peoples had a system going from "family", to "clan", to "tribe", and then "nation" (The Thing). Native Americans used such a system too, and I found this http://www.keyway.ca/htm2001/20010417.htm (It's from the US, but the biblical description of structure is international so as Dutch we can "steal" from that)

Brainstorming I have probably gone off on a tangient again. Sorry folks. :)))

Oh, and I was browsing around today on Huffington post and found you are a fervent commentator. Fun! :)
