Initially I didn't look up what ghostery has on Google Analytics since last time I looked in the ning I admin, Google Analytics is turned on and configured by site admins. Nevertheless, for completeness:

Peeps, clean up your cookies and block Specificclick cookies.

Specificclick cookies store information about a PC user’s interaction with a specific website. Standard Cookies are not inherently dangerous, but they can be misused and exploited and may allow a distinct and apparently unrelated website to access the same information. If more than one website can access a cookie that has been placed on the user’s PC, that cookie poses a security and privacy risk.

Henry, I got the email. And yes there is danger. There always is. Every morning I wake up in a predatory universe where death lies around the corner. I practice unserious seriousness because of that awareness.

I checked my system with rkhunter and unhide, and found nuttin dodgy sofar. Spyware can give off false positives (negatives in this case). And that doesn't mean nothing is going on here.

But because Nings are run on common software not maintained by site administrators, it is not in their power to either make it a honeypot, or to make it more secure for that matter.

I will sniff around some to find out if the common code contains indicators of Ning having sold out its customers. This all may take awhile (days), but I'll be back with more on that.

Overall, I think it is time to "dig in". Time for decentralizing the Internet So Big Brother Can’t Find Us. More on that too ~ and as that is a work in progress, that may take months.
