Belhadj’s group who, according to the Libyan authorities, was linked to the Al Qaeda terrorist network, was granted amnesty on the promise that it had renounced violence. According to the Algerian outlet, the very fact that this former emir - linked to a fundamentalist Islamic group - was designated to deliver Tripoli from the "tyrant’s rule" would clearly indicate that Salafism (Editor’s note: an extremist Sunni movement advocating a return to the fundamentals of Islam as laid down in the Koran and the Sunnah.) is rife in the ranks of the Libyan armed opposition, dubbed as "the rebels". Moreover, Belhadj’s frequent appearances on Al-Jazeera(television channel based in Qatar, a country which participated in the aggression on Libya together with the United States and France) foreshadow the influential role that he will play in post-war Libya. At a press conference on Friday, Belhadj said that the Tripoli Military Council “was the first step in a process to bring the fighters into a new national army.” It should also be recalled that Abdelhakim Belhadj, now an all-powerful military "rebel" commander in Tripoli, was once hosted in the prisons of the CIA and is well known to the U.S. authorities. Better known within Islamist circles by his alias "Abu Abdallah al-Sadek," Belhadj boasts a reputation as a very experienced mujaheddin commander. In Afghanistan, before the attacks of September 11, he ran two training camps for Al-Qaeda volunteers coming from abroad. Their current collaboration with Western intelligence services is evidence of the fact that Al Qaeda has always been controlled by the CIA. Protests against Muammar Gaddafi, in power for over 40 years, erupted in Libya in mid-February before gaining momentum and being supported militarily by NATO countries. On 22 August the rebels entered the capital [thanks to the military aid of the Western powers] however, many pockets of pro-Ghaddafi resistance are still being reported in the city with fierce fighting underway. Two months after arrival in Tripoli Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya  and the president of Voltaire Network briefly commented about the situation just before leaving Tripoli 2 days ago as follows: "The center of Tripoli is occupied by the rebels. The population is cloistered inside their homes. Not joy, but terror. No freedom; only foreign occupation. "

If you cannot know by now that BelHadj is al-Qaeda leader and terrorist, then you are thoroghly brainwashed!!
He also was emplted by the US State Department recently to train al-Qaeda to infiltrae the Syrian scene to cause disruption there.

BTW: Whether you want to believe it or not, Muammar al-Qathafi IS the closest thing on earth to being as you call a "SAINT" :

The revolutionary aspects of al-Qathafi's thinking brings a genuine confrontation between Muslem leaders themselves and the Ulema of al-Azhar and the Islamic Studies--and their opposition to al-Qathafi.

On the oecumenical aspects found in al-Qathafi's manner of belief (which he undertakes in respect to the two other "revealed religions" of Christianity & Judaism), is what he calls the "divine" interpretation of the Holy Quaran: Here al-Qathafi is seeking not only a peace-making plan of execution (between the believers of a One God, or "peoples of The Book")--but the final propagation and recognition that there is but one single authentic and valid religious adherence: "whether one prays in synogugue, church or mosque."
The infra-structures of the other two (being Vatican or Rabbinate) makes al-Qathafi's thinking quite dangerous; but are definitely of great importance to him. Not only is he keenly aware of this, but it truly makes manifest (this obvious recognition of) the "man" Muammar al-Qathafi:
"Here he is, at the same time, and perhaps essentially, a mystic, constantly in quest of divine inspiration. Here is a mystic who sees his people's future, and his own mission to lead these same people, as the Prophet, early in his career, at Mecca, forsaw the future of the first among the Faithful."

al-Qathafi has purposely emphasised this in all the handout booklets he approved as tracks from the Libyan Ministry of Information.. He proclaims this fervently and with all sincerety and honesty. It is certainly no charade.

You seem to think that Gaddafi was a saint that never did anything wrong, that also is gullible. Gaddafi was a human being, and no human being is perfect. I believe he tried his best for the Libyan people but that does not exclude the possibility that he did not during some time of his regime cooperate with the western intelligence services. We simply don't have the information about the dealing and wheeling between heads of states and intelligence services of the world. We may have a glimpse every now and then, that's all.

Could you elaborate a bit how BelHadj is a terrorist, some articles or links.

@ Less Prone--you are getting gullable to MSM PROPAGANDA--the "man" you refer to is the al-Qaeda BelHadj ! and it is all made to appear that al-Qathafi tortured people for the American CIA and British MI6--It ia all part of a smear campaign....

BelHadj is the real terrorist. murderer and torturer.  
KNOW that Muammar al-Qathafi NEVER tortured anyone!

Tony Blair could be sued over Libya torture claims by man who alleges MI6 sent him into the hands of Gaddafi's regime.

Blair could be next to face a legal claim for damages from the Libyan man who alleges MI6 sent him to be tortured by Gaddafi’s regime, after he announced he was suing Jack Straw.

Leading military forces known in Sudan Alhqiik have made an intervention shortly on the Chamber of Libya's Great (RADIO SHOW- PAL-TALK): "We warn clients NATO to pull in and out of Libya because of all the African troops are ready to step in and liberate the people of Libya and taking revenge with our leader Gaddafi, the "father of Africans"
Muammar al-Qathafi says, ".... I would never allow Libya to be lost at the hands of foreigners and traitors. The Libyan Resistance is in full readiness with millions within Africa; so, we send-out the final call for all NATO Baggers: to get out of Libya before it is too late! @Unemployed Stormtrooper:  I wish  now  you can know really whom Maummar al-Qathafi is. He gave the Libyan people a wonderful  direct democracy system known as the Jamahiriya. The people were the only  thing with power and they governed themselves.
Who else but Muammar al-Qathafi  loved God so much that he dreamed-up a Jamahiriya ( a nation based wholly upon Sacred Scripture) and made it a living realty (before NATO moved in and destroyed it)? Who else watered the desert and made Bengazi bloom...and crops be planted even in the far South? Who else brought the Internet and tele-communications to the furthest outreaches beyond the Sahel and also the sub-Sahara? Who else brought education, up-to the highest levels, to everyone willing to learn? Who else built a magnificent mosque in Uganda (when everyone else who tried failed) ? Who else refused the passes of beautiful women, preferring his lawful wife? Who else banned bars and brothels and pornography, when others were making billions on smut? Who else helped film the story of both The Prophet and the life of Omar Mucktar (when no other person would dare to finance such a project under immense threat) ? Who else has won the hearts of millions all over the world?

Now--who else will end the curse of NATO, The American Empire and the New World Order? WHO, else other than Muammar al-Qathafi !

Who else dared (and openly proclaimed) to clean-up Islam from the "barnicles that corroded it" by the past Ulaam who created an endless Hadath & the present bearded extremists who honor only selfishness greed and material wealth and glory, instead of humility and love for all creation! Who dared to profess his love for Jesus and his Christian brothers (while yet being bombarded from those of Western Civilisation who claimed Jesus falsely as their own) ? What other leader would tour Europe, Africa and the world, pay his own expenses for his visits (not leaving the burden on the nations visited--or coming to visit him) and then lead the Muslims throughout the world in Universal Prayer as an IMAM ? Who else would openly proclaim that he was a Reformer (MUJJADID) without fear of reprisal by the various factions and entities of the established Islamic world?---only one man: Muammar al-Qathafi !

BTW: No one could get an abortion under the JAMAHIRIYA or have his life terminated just because someone or themselves thought their life was useless or too painful. Health care was without bounds or restrictions. newly weds were given € 50 000 to begin family life. (In fact women were given money of more than € 5 000 per child newborn--no limit as to how many children!.) 
al-Qathafi was also against Capital punishment, and all weapons of mass destruction. he also espoused mercy and amnesty to those who truly repent, lay down their weapons, go home, and promise never to go up against the Jamahiriya ever again....do I need to go on?

How much more "pro-life" than al-Qathafi can one be?

Al-Qathafi loved life so much that beyond having 8 natural children, he adopted 2 more. He had great asparations for all the people of his Jamahiriya; and had hopes for even a greater future, not only for Libya, but all of Africa and the entire world---having also a huge foreign labor population within the Jamahiriya---(-ofcourse ONLY until NATO DESTROYED all those accomplishments and opportunities)!
