Today, Congressman Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) along with 17 other memb..., sent a bipartisan letter to President Obama asking him to direct Attorney General Eric Holder to reschedule marijuana from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, as is permitted by 21 U.S.C. § 811.“You said that you don’t believe marijuana is any more dangerous than alcohol: a fully legalized substance, and believe it to be less dangerous ‘in terms of its impact on the individual consumer,’” the letter reads. “This is true. Marijuana, however, remains listed in the federal Controlled Substances Act at Schedule I, the strictest classification, along with heroin and LSD. This is a higher listing than cocaine and methamphetamine, Schedule II substances that you gave as examples of harder drugs. This makes no sense.”

Pot Legalization Ballot Wording Gets Green Light in DC

The D.C. Board of Elections approved ballot language Tuesday for a proposed initiative to legalize marijuana.

Initiative 71 seeks to legalize possession of 2 ounces of marijuana by adults 21 and older. It would allow people to cultivate six plants at home – three of which may be mature and flowering – and has provisions for the noncommercial transfer of marijuana.

During a sparsely attended meeting Tuesday, board members unanimously approved the initiative’s short title and ballot summary statement. The board decided March 10 the initiative itself was permissible.

“This is fine, this is perfect,” D.C. Cannabis Campaign organizer Adam Eidinger said after reviewing the board’s draft wording.

'The Weed Fairy' visits Seattle, gives out pot

SEATTLE (AP) — A woman who calls herself the "Weed Fairy" distributed free nuggets of marijuana to people in Seattle over Memorial Day weekend, taping the free pot on fliers around a city neighborhood.

The woman, 23-year-old Yeni Sleidi, says she does it to amuse people and to give them a break from everyday stress.

She said 50 fliers had nuggets taped to them.

"People mostly laughed," Sleidi said Wednesday.
