The Realm

Diving through the layers of the night

Yet stumbling as I don't feel quite right

There's a spirit dance just out of sight

In the midst of my nocturnal plight,

Ghosts emerge from my memories

Self-torment seems evident in varying degrees

Makes no difference who you try to please

As you abandon ship over rough seas,

Deep inside my mortal soul

Long standing regrets taking their toll

Seems I’m an actor playing the wrong role

Just as the truth is hidden by biased opinion polls,

Where are you love-you’re hiding from me

An eternal enigma you might as well be

Like a sniper well hidden in the branches of a tree

It seems you are immune by virtue of your own decree,

Like salvation just beyond my grasp

Might as well have been bitten by an asp

The haughty vocalization of a pirate’s rasp

Where the irons on my wrist have been clasped,

Where will this starlit ship take me on this forbidden night?

A cruise into the nocturnal waters before dawn’s light

Struggling with those demons with all my might

Wishing for blissful sleep I’d gladly invite,

The Lord of the darkest realm

With all his spirits at the helm

A place where guilt overwhelms

As I wander through witch elms,

The lunar entity casts a shimmering disguise

Hiding evil and insidious lies

Blanketing atrocities and muffling cries

These are the injustices that I despise,

No lovers hand in hand walking into the sunset

The typical Hollywood lies that we get

These are the odds against our ill-advised bets

A realm where there are no safety nets.
