James Eric Davis Jr. is the suspect in the shooting deaths of two people on Central Michigan University's campus. 

He is a black man, approximately 19 years old, 5'10" and 135 lbs. He was last seen wearing mustard colored jeans and a blue hoodie, according to a tweet from the City of Mt. Pleasant. He is considered armed and dangerous. 

Central Michigan University police "had contact" with Davis Thursday night and he was transported to McLaren Hospital and released Friday morning, according to Mount Pleasant information officer Jeff Browne. He was seen headed north from the dorm, running along the railroad tracks, Browne reported.

Davis is a 2016 graduate of Plainfield Central High School in Plainfield, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago. 

His father, James E. Davis Sr.,  is a part-time police officer in Bellwood, Bellwood Police Chief Jiminez Allen confirmed.

Steve Lamberti, the humanities division chair at Plainfield Central and the former coach of the boy’s basketball team, said he coached Davis Jr. during his senior year. Lamberti said Davis Jr. attended a different high school -- Plainfield South -- for his first three years of school.

Lamberti described Davis Jr. as a polite and quiet kid. He said Davis Jr. didn’t have a lot of playing time, but always showed up on time.

“He was a typical high school kid,” he said. “No problems at all.”

Logan Ludy played basketball with Davis at Plainfield South his sophomore year. Davis was a point guard, though he didn't play much that year. 

"He’s a pretty quiet kid," Ludy said. "He’s nice, he’s relaxed."

And he can't believe Davis is a suspect in double homicide. 

"He was a good person in my view," Ludy said. "I don’t know what else to say."
