Breaking News _ the Left Hates everything Fun - 5 reasons why 'A Christmas Story' is actually a terrible Christmas movie

When A Christmas Story opened in theaters on Nov. 18, 1983, it was not one of the year’s biggest films. Thirty-five years later, that little movie looms large over the holiday season. You can buy “major award” leg lamps at any price point, tour Ralphie’s actual house that was used in the filming of the movie, watch the Broadway musical adaptation and, of course, spend 24 hours in front of the TV watching the annual Christmas Story marathon on basic cable. The film has become a Christmas tradition beloved by many — but not all. In this video, I make a case for why A Christmas Story, despite its title, is a terrible Christmas movie. 1. A Christmas Story is all about consumerism.

Most classic Christmas movies embrace the idea that Christmas means goodwill to all. Maybe the characters want presents or other selfish things, but ultimately they realize that the holiday is about so much more. In A Christmas Story, Ralphie really, really wants an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot range model air rifle. But by the end of the film, he has realized that the true meaning of Christmas… is shooting things with his new Red Ryder BB gun.

2. A Christmas Story is not especially about Christmas.

Yes, it’s set during the Christmas season, but the holiday is largely irrelevant to the loosely strung vignettes that the film calls a plot. So what is the film about? Well, a major theme is “children in pain.”

I guess it boils down to "I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it” ....I was just wondering where all the "Christian" outrage is hiding at every year round this time. ...and I teach all childrenz that this corporate whore holiday is a financial sham based on fictional fake fairy tale characters

Comment by Central Scrutinizer on December 4, 2018 at 1:57pm: I would think that you "Religious" folks who have been blindly deceived by history's longest running scam aren't out in droves by the 1000's, super pissed & protesting this made-up date "holiday" that now seems to celebrate everything but a birthday of a fictional figurehead, amongst all the materialistic chinese goods, cheap plastic toys, zirconium diamonds, & over-priced plastic vehicles, ....and that other fictional character.... a fatass w/ a beard, decked in devil red.

I don't even acknowledge it, decorate it, or participate in it.... I save shitloads even ;) ....The 25th for me this year, well, It'll just be another tepid Tuesday....

Santa is an old white man (white male toxicity and privilege) who abuses his elves (the unprivileged working class), reindeer (call PETA) and Mrs. Clause (sexist). He is the judge of who is deserving, undoubtedly allowing his racist/anti-diversity notions guide him. He alone takes credit for delivering all the gifts, totally disregarding the contributions made by others (narcissist). And he is overweight, proving he is taking more than his share of the earth's resources (no concern for the environment or the additional burden this puts on the reindeer). On top of it all, he brought Ralphie his Red Ryder and we all know "Guns are Bad". Happy Progressive Christmas! lol
